The PTO is looking for more volunteers. Feel free to send us an email if you are interested in a larger role with the PTO. We'd love to hear from you!

As of March 1, 2022, The West Des Moines Community School District's Return to Learn plan allows some visitors and volunteers on an invitation-only basis. Email your student's teacher or the PTO if you need ideas on how to help!

Watch your email, follow us on Facebook, or check this page for current opportunities for specific events.

Open Leadership Positions
The PTO is looking for parents to join a fundraising committee. If you are interested in volunteering or just want to learn more about a position, email
School Community Network Representative
The WDMCS is dedicated to involving our parents. Made up of parents, teachers and administrators from across the district, the School Community Network group provides an opportunity for a face-to-face exchange of ideas and information. Its members also help to share information about district with the community. Meetings of the School Community Network are typically the third Tuesday of the month starting at 11 a.m. virtually or at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.  The CLA PTO can send two representatives.  We currently have one and are looking for a second.
2022-2023 Executive Board Positions
The Executive Board of the Parent Teacher Organization is comprised of six elected positions (president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, volunteer coordinator and fundraising chair). There may also be at-large board members. Executive Board Positions are elected every two years or when a position becomes vacant. Elections are held at the last PTO meeting of the school year. Every attendee at the meeting may cast their vote.

The duties of the Executive Board are to meet once a month with the director of the school, fulfill all duties according to their position and ensure the mission of the PTO is being met.

PTO Sponsored-Parties

Volunteers and supply donations needed!

**Parties may look different in the 2022-2023 school year.

Stay tuned for more information.**

The PTO sponsors three parties during the school year, a Fall Party, Winter Party and Friendship Party (Valentine's Day). During the scheduled party time, students play a game, make a craft and eat a snack in their own classrooms. Our teachers are looking for adult helpers to give their students a festive experience. Please contact your student's teacher directly to offer your help.

Interested in helping but not exactly sure what it entails? Fill out our volunteer form to sign up!

Not able to be at the party but want to support it?  An electronic sign up sheet with a list of supplies is posted before every party. Donations can be dropped off in the school's front office.  Thank you for your support!

*Note-The PTO strives to spend funds raised responsibly. We provide a signup for party donations since they are consumable and need to be replaced at every party.  We deem this as one of the many ways the Clive community can support the students. Signing up for a donation is strictly optional.

Back Pack Buddies Alternate

Opportunities for students to take food home for the weekend is offered through a confidential program called Back Pack Buddies. Once a week (Thursday) our parent coordinator drives to the LRC (Learning Resource Center-off Mills Civic in West Des Moines) to pick up boxes and deliver them to the school in the lunchroom. We are in need of some fill-in drivers when our parent coordinator isn't available. This is an easy way to support our Clive students. To sign up, email
