Open Leadership Positions
Interested in volunteering or just want to learn more about a position?
Do you like food? Our staff does...we're looking for a parent coordinator to plan FOUR hospitable occasions through the school year (welcome back breakfast, two conference dinners and staff appreciation breakfast.) This person would coordinate other volunteers to bring or purchase the food as well as to set up and clean up for each occasion. This is a great way to show our staff how much we appreciate their hard work.
School Community Network Representative
The WDMCS is dedicated to involving our parents. Made up of parents, teachers and administrators from across the district, the School Community Network group provides an opportunity for a face-to-face exchange of ideas and information. Its members also help to share information about district with the community. Meetings of the School Community Network are typically the third Tuesday of the month starting at 9:15 a.m. at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. The CLA PTO can send two representatives. We currently have one and are looking for a second.
2020-2021 Executive Board Positions
The Executive Board of the Parent Teacher Organization is comprised of six elected positions (president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, volunteer coordinator and fundraising chair.) Executive Board Positions are elected every two years or when a position becomes vacant. Elections are held at the last PTO meeting of the school year. Every attendee at the meeting may cast their vote.
The duties of the Executive Board are to meet once a month with the director of the school, fulfill all duties according to their position and ensure the mission of the PTO is being met.
For the 2020-2021 school year, the board positions are full. During the spring of 2021, open positions for the 2021-2022 school year will be announced.
Volunteers and supply donations needed!
The PTO sponsors three parties during the school year, a Fall Party, Winter Party and Friendship Party (Valentine's Day). During the scheduled party time, students play a game, make a craft and eat a snack in their own classrooms. Our teachers are looking for adult helpers to give their students a festive experience. Please contact your student's teacher directly to offer your help.
Interested in helping but not exactly sure what it entails? Contact our volunteer coordinator for more details.
Not able to be at the party but want to support it? An electronic sign up sheet with a list of supplies is posted before every party. Donations can be dropped off in the school's front office. Thank you for your support!
*Note-The PTO strives to spend funds raised responsibly. We provide a signup for party donations since they are consumable and need to be replaced at every party. We deem this as one of the many ways the Clive community can support the students. Signing up for a donation is strictly optional.
Other Volunteer Positions
Box Tops Counters
We are in need of parents to help our Box Tops Coordinator collect, trim up and count box tops once-twice a month. This volunteer opportunity can be done at home at your convenience. To sign up, email email@example.com.
Lunch Room Helper
Each day that school is in session, helpers are needed in the lunchroom. While CLA has some staff available for this, more help is always needed. Volunteers would float around the cafeteria and assist students with carrying trays, getting condiments, opening milk and other packaged foods, encourage good behavior, make small talk and more! This is a great way to get to know your student's classmates and friends. Lunch shifts go from 11am to 1pm. Volunteer for just one date or help out on a scheduled basis. To sign up, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Back Pack Buddies Alternate
Opportunities for students to take food home for the weekend is offered through a confidential program called Back Pack Buddies. Once a week (Thursday) our parent coordinator drives to the LRC (Learning Resource Center-off Mills Civic in West Des Moines) to pick up boxes and deliver them to the school in the lunchroom. We are in need of some fill-in drivers when our parent coordinator isn't available. This is an easy way to support our Clive students. To sign up, email email@example.com.
